Ikot Ekpene, known throughout Nigeria as the ‘Raffia City’ or locally simply as ‘IK’ is a historic town in the South-south zone of Nigeria. Ikot Ekpene is known as a regional centre of commerce, with significant exports which include basket weaving, sculpture, and, most notably, raffia cane furniture and products (hence the colloquial name of the town).
 
Ikot Ekpene has a long history of transforming the raffia fiber into fabric used for making shoes, hats, handbags, mats and with distinctive cultural carvings made out of wood. These unique trades have continued alongside traditionally.
 
Raffia Chevalier is a Fashion Show that will be staged in Ikot Ekpene, on the second day of the Ibom Fashion Collective [Fashion Week] May, 17, 2011 and the full-on glamour of raffia couture will be the focal point of the show.
 
The show will feature four [4] fashion designers of international repute, showcasing a collection of 15 raffia based clothes each, to reflect the raffia heritage of the Ikot Ekpene people. These clothes will be strutted by 20 fashion models.
